Stylish Self-catering Accommodation in Portavogie
Located on the scenic Ards Peninsula, Portavogie (from the Irish Port a' Bhogaigh - ''Harbour of the Bog'') is the most easterly settlement on the coastline of Northern Ireland. The village's history can be traced back to the late 16th century. Portavogie is one of the main fishing ports in the Province, famous for its prawns and herring.
There are a host of things to do and see: visit Exploris Aquarium, take a tour of Echinville Distillery - home of Jawbox gin and Dunmore whiskey, visit Mountstewart Estate, experience the charming coffee and antique shops of historic Greyabbey, play a round of golf at Kirkiston Castle Golf Club or see the racing at Kirkiston Race Track.
The sheltered bays and clear blue waters at Portavogie and Cloughey are popular with families, dog walkers, swimmers and water-sports enthusiasts such as paddle boarders, kayakers, wind surfers and water skiers.
The waters are also popular with seals who can be seen swimming close to shore and on a fine day sunbathing on the rocky outcrops (McCammon Rocks) off North Beach in Portavogie. At low tide it is possible to walk across the sand and rocks from the south beach in Portavogie to Cloughey Bay.
